My interest has faded as well. I'm probably about out the door here. I've had a good time here over the years, and have learned alot. I'll bet a few folks are likely burned out on my posts....

FWIW my canvas came 'treated' with water repellent. That worked fantastic the first couple years. Shed water like a duck for 100 plus continuous weeks. Third year it wasn't beading anymore but still...

My yurt is canvas cover only, uninsulated, and drafty. As such it doesn't hold heat whatsoever. Unfamiliar with a tight insulated yurt so no other comment.

Sounds to me like a nomadic sized yurt just might be in your future. Being tied down on one spot that is essentially a ton of work and repairs has got to be a big pita sometimes. A simple yurt you...

Mongolian trad yurts of size say 6M and up have supports...

Say you buy a 36' yurt (now that is truly a very massive yurt) and install it atop a platform. Then a few years down the road decide a house is the next step, which is commonplace amongst yurt...

No matter how you slice it, and regardless of how great they are, yurts are tents, not framed houses. They aren't just a cheap affordable house, they are tents not houses. No cloth cover over a light...

If I were you I'd buy a yurt from one of the sponsors of this site, and include their finest 15 year cover. Just figure the additional funds money well spent for a top grade yurt. It's very unlikely...

I doubt you will get five usable years out of a canvas cover, especially in a damp climate. Here in the dry western United States my canvas cover lasted five years. If you do opt for a canvas cover...
