Re: Real Walls in a Pacific Yurt?

We do spot inspections by unscrewing the sidewall and poking around. It IS possible that we have missed something. We always run an air purifier regardless because of the usual indoor air pollution...

Re: Real Walls in a Pacific Yurt?

I don't think vents in the walls would be necessary. At least not in our climate where it is very windy. The wall fabric is loose enough that air moves through the walls quite well. A little too...

Re: Wood Stove Rear Flue Exit?

We even crack to door to let it start burning really hot before adding wood. This does help, but I think the two 90's are probably to blame. We also open a window first or close the dome. Try to...

Re: Wood Stove Rear Flue Exit?

That is a tough question. Our straight out the back stove pipe was from a wood cook stove which did NOT draft very well, but it's like comparing apples and oranges; cook stove to regular wood stove....

Re: Wood Stove Rear Flue Exit?

Hey blueridge. We used the rear exit of our waterford cookstove and went straight out the side wall about 3 feet above the yurt floor. We did not slip the metal flashing up under the yurt valence. ...

Re: canvas yurt roof needs repair

I have sewed up yurt seams with an industrial sewing machine that we just happened to own. We used 'seam sealer' product to water proof the seam. Worked great. Just need to make sure the canvas...

Re: Floating floor

We used car decking for our yurt platform (2x6 T&G). Then we raised the yurt and then we used a sanding machine to finish the wood before putting on several coats of tung oil. Inexpensive,...

Re: Insulation

We insulated our yurt floor walls and ceiling just like a house. R19 in the walls, R34 in the ceiling, and I can't remember how many Rs in the floor. No mold problems after 6 years. We do get...

Re: Yurt living in Sweden full-time

In my county in Washington state, many of the rural homes are non-permitted. It's kind of a live and let live attitude. Lots of folks living in their "barn" or in yurts. It is a 'complaint driven'...

Re: Greetings from New Zealand

Really nice work Highlander. I like your 'steam guide' above the stove. Also I have never seen those 'screw' footings before. Looks a lot easier than concrete. Will there be any problem with...

Re: Wrong Platform plans

Wow, so sorry to hear about your mishap. Yes, it seems like you could make a compass, draw a 20' circle and then cut your platform smaller. You would have to redo the skirting and some of the...

Re: New Woodstove For The Yurt

Do you have a picture of the base of your chimney support post? (did not see on your blog). I am having to build a new support post and would rather not design from scratch. I am having trouble...

Re: Drywall in yurt

We installed 3/8" drywall and denim insulation. We do get a bit of condensation in very cold weather but are careful to use the dome vent, and have a bathroom exhaust fan. We have not had any mold...

Re: Real Walls in a Pacific Yurt?

We installed insulation and drywall in our Pacific yurt's walls. We used 3/8" because it bends easier. My yurt blog on my profile should have pix. Down the road I plan to replace the exterior...

Re: New Woodstove For The Yurt

Do you have a picture of the exterior support system for the chimney? I am switching to a new wood stove with a high exit point in the sidewall so my old support system which uses two attachment...
