Re: Wood siding and metal roof

I have a permanent yurt that we are restoring. The siding on it is a more standard wood siding. The cedar sounds really nice. A little too expensive for my budget. Same with the metal roof. Because...

Re: Anyone seen this before?

As you can see in the picture, there are brackets between the roof rafters that are bolted together (except for one pair). Between that and the ring we are hoping not to see more spiraling, at least...

Re: Anyone seen this before?

Just an update on how we are dealing with the problem. Lots of tightening if bolts and jacking. Roof joists are just about aligned all the way around...

Re: Anyone seen this before?

Thanks! We were looking at jacking the lower ones up and the ring with them. There is an interior wall (bathroom) that appears to be holding roof joists up, in what we assumed is the original...

Re: Anyone seen this before?

Thanks. Why do you think the ring has slipped? Do the cables stretch? We think our yurt is over 50 years old.

Re: Anyone seen this before?

Thanks! Good to know. I'm sure we can vent the roof. Thinking about a metal roof.

Re: Anyone seen this before?

No venting and definitely moisture issues. Still working on stopping the rain from coming in. Roof will most likely be fully recovered-decked.

Re: Anyone seen this before?

Do you think the silver ring was installed to be load bearing or otherwise structural, or is it just to hold the chimney pipes? We are thinking that the problem was caused primarily by the...

Has anyone seen this before?

Restoring an old yurt. Foundation is half concrete and half wood, which has settled. Removed the leaning chimney and found this mess. Looking for suggestions on causes and fixes. Thanks!...
