Traditional Mongolian Yurt

I got this yurt in two installments. The frame came from a man in San Diego who once imported a few yurts. The covers came from Groovy Yurts in Montréal.

Re: Where to buy a Mongolian yurt cover?

Well, now it IS a done deal. Groovy Yurts is indeed a fantastic company to work with. Yves bent over backwards to get all of the covers to me quickly and at a reasonable price. I'm now lounging in my...

Re: Waterproofing Mongolian Yurt Lattice?

I'm so sorry I missed your responses for so long. I happen to have a lot of boiled linseed oil on hand, too. I used it to water seal my deck this summer.

Now that the rains are here and water is...

Re: Waterproofing Mongolian Yurt Lattice?

Thanks for the response. I've never tried that oil before. It sounds great!

I guess my question is about whether it's necessary to oil the lattice and whether an oil that would protect wood would...

Waterproofing Mongolian Yurt Lattice?

Hi, y'all,

I hope this is the right place to post this question.

I've finally gotten the Mongolian yurt frame and it's gorgeous! I'll find the right place and post photos of it in a separate...

Re: Where to buy a Mongolian yurt cover?

Well, it's not a done deal yet, but Yves from Groovy Yurts sent me a thorough email confirming that yes, indeed, they sell exactly the parts that I need - a cover, insulation, etc. I have no doubt...

Re: After many months my yurt is finally up!!

Jafo, can we see a snapshot of what happens with your stove pipe on the outside of the wall? I'm about to install one and would love to see what you've done.

Thanks!

Where to buy a Mongolian yurt cover?

Hi, y'all!

I've been kind of quiet around here since setting up my first yurt. It's going great and I love it.

Now I've bought a 5-wall (20') Mongolian yurt frame and need a waterproof cover...

Re: Mick Jagger's Luxury Yurt

Is it just me or does a £3,000 yurt sound reasonably priced? :)

Bought instead of building and it's up!

Oh, yes! It's on the list before rainy season. I'll lift up the floor and insulate a little, especially since the water I catch on this platform is my only source. It should be quite wet.

Thanks...

Bought instead of building and it's up!

Hey, there!

I posted a while back about building a yurt. Folks recommended that I buy a used one and I found one custom built but new (from the Artisan Yurt Project in Eugene.)

I built the...

You're both right, of course. I have the equipment to build the roof and wall covers myself. Production sewing is part of my business as a weaver, after all.

I was just continuing with an earlier...

24' Yurt Measurements?

Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement. I did restore a damaged 16' yurt a few years ago, so I'm not a complete newbie to this. I've just never designed and built one myself.

On the topic of...

Thanks, Steve!

I hadn't really considered that yurts are popular enough that I could find one used. When I started fantasizing about living in one, I could find very little on the market....
