Re: Real Walls in a Pacific Yurt?

If you want completely solid then companies like Smiling Wood are the way to go.

However you can also do semi solid wall interior fairly easy. From what I know the basic gist of what many folks...

Re: Build a yurt ourselves or buy a kit?

The big issue with building a yurt yourself from my understanding is sewing the covering. From what I have heard this is where most DIYers have the biggest trouble. It takes a lot of space and a very...

Re: Year-Round Yurt Living Locations

You might want to look at the Eugene OR area. Easy quick (20-30 min) route out to the Ocean but safely inland away from tsunami. Eugene has a nice river running thought it with a large park along the...

Re: Extra wall protection from bears

BTW there is a reason why most cabin doors swing out instead of in. It is due to bears. A bear can push a door in if the hinges swing in fairly easy, but having the door swing out and having a very...

Re: Extra wall protection from bears

#1 bear protection is odor control. Bears sense of smell is like sharks being able to smell blood in water. So controlling odors is the first step. Cleaning up after meals removing any odor causing...

Re: Interesting yurt design

Might weigh a little less, but I doubt the weight savings is really that much in comparison to modern lattice yurts. A traditional ger with felt, sure but a modern lattice and canvas, not too likely...

Re: Interesting yurt design

Hard to imagine plywood panels being lighter weight than lattice. Maybe due to not having the extra canvas to cover the walls?

Definitely not as attractive as a lattice and canvas yurt.

From my...

Re: Privacy in a yurt

Part of what allows the Mongolians to live this way is a strict system of organizing the ger into sections for specific tasks and even specific places places for men, women, children, guests. Also...

These look interesting, though I would suggest Freedom Yurt adding a gallery section with actual pictures of their yurts. Right now all the images are computer images edited into landscapes not real...

For example you can get a 28' white parachute for $120 It would almost completely cover your 30' yurt's roof and is already round...
