I did set up on the ground for a while but didn't do anything fancy.I would recommend a good vapor barrier to help keep mold down. I think if i where to do it again i would place it over straw bails...

I was playing around with a yurt one year and i put it up with out wall covers just to see if i could keep it in one place and see how the roof cover would do. what i did to anchor the whole thing...

Sounds like a good idea maybe you could also do a rocket stove with bio mass heating. you can check you tube for videos on rocket stoves,and how to build.
