Default Colorado Yurts Now Using Velcro as Roof to Wall Connection

I was surprised to find on our weekend yurt set up for a client this weekend that the new owners of

Colorado Yurts

switched their industry leading roof to wall lacincg system with a velcro system that we hadn't seen since working with new yurt makers over a decade ago.

Velcro nearly caused yurts to lose all credibility in permitting residentially in Hawaii over a decade ago. Their site still lists their specs as lacing system. Buyers be aware. I would not ever be able to recommend velcro in windy climates as your main roof to wall connection point.

Well that sucks.

Hang glider pilots shouldn't carabiner their harness to a velcroed loop either. There's a 'fail' video on youtube on that one. Fortunately the pilot survived.

Interesting. I can confirm that as late as July 2021 they made my yurt with the crochet-style wall to roof attachment.

Yes, they didn't change it until recently but not sure exactly when as they didn't announce it. We had clients around April of this past year that got the lacing system as standard. Hoping that decision gets nixed or at least only kept as an option and let their clients decide which they want/need. I know that Hawaii County will not allow this in permitted yurts - I danced that dance with them over a decade ago when a velcroed on yurt roof came off during a storm.
