Default Yurt Covers PVC!?!

We have just purchased a used Two Girls Farm 25' Yurt. We are very excited BUT I just started to do some research into PVC. I am worried that it is not safe to live enclosed in a PVC house. I am wanting to hear some opinions on the matter. Is it safe to live in a yurt with a Vinyl cover? Should I buy a different cover?

There are a large number of yurts out there with vinyl covers. Several of the manufacturers here use them, see what info they can offer on them. People swim in vinyl pools which should indicate the material is safe to humans. Our drinking water comes to us in pvc pipes. Food for thought there. I wouldnt be concerned about it, but find out to reassure yourself.

Yes, they are safe. The only real proven safety issues with PVC's are for those in the industry who are not properly protected during manufacturing. This goes for just about any material if you think about it. How many lumberjacks are hurt every year "manufacturing" lumber? But that doesn't mean wood is an unsafe material.

Hi Everyone, I'm new here from Australia. I'm almost finished making my first yurt from up cycled materials. (6metre diameter) I have bought and fitted expired billboard skins for the cover, BUT I have had no success in finding a glue that will hold the two roof panels together.
I have unsuccessfully to melt/ heat weld the seams.
Does anyone know a glue or successful waterproof method apart from sewing?

Hi

Welcome to the forum !

I dont know if it is available there but here is a product called Smooth-On EA-40. I think its available throughout the west.

There is a very active aquaponics movement there in Oz that uses a lot of glues/cements for pvc and vynl plastics, I know that here we have any number of pvc cements that would work on the billboard cover materials. You might try doing an internet search on pvc cements.

Good luck in your search.

Thumbs up Re: Yurt Covers PVC!?!

If you do a net search for Smooth-On EA40 I think you will find a link for dealers in Oz.

Good luck.

No luck with the Smooth-On EA40. Supplier out of stock and with reordering and then delivery to here it would be 3-4 weeks plus. No success finding any closer so I visited my local ships chandler and on their advice bought some Azbond C 2 pack that is used to glue inflatable boats. Testing was a success so I went ahead and I have now glued the roof and side covers. Just a few reinforcing and cosmetic bits to glue today. Yurt is ever so close to complete. I'll try and post photos when I set it up again.
Thanks. :-)

I have no experience with that product but it should sure work, you would be working it a whole lot less then its normal use.

Good luck, and looking forward to those pictures.
