Default Old ripped unknown maker needs new cover

We just bought land in Maine, and we got a bonus 16’ yurt on the property! It currently has some kind of vinal cover on it nailed directly into the walls. It’s been left out for years so it has rips and the window is just screen. We will need to be replacing the walls and roof but I’m at a loss! I’d like to insulate it and leave it up year round. There is not a manufacturer listed anywhere on the yurt (I’m assuming they made the cover that’s on it now). Any suggestions on “universal” covers? Or is there one brand that would be better accommodating to fitting an unknown maker? I believe it’s 7’ walls.

Could you possible get us some pictures of the yurt? Namely the

center ring

, where it attaches to the door, the windows. etc.? We might be able to nail it down the manufacturer for you, though it sounds like a custom one if the cover was nailed to the walls.

We have a sponsor here, Beowulf (see ads on sidebar) who does custom covers but they will need detailed measurements. I have no idea what that entails, but it might not hurt to give them a call:

Also, Steve at Shirley Yurts does custom covers and is in Vermont:

There is no 'universal' cover. Why? The reasons being the roof pitch, the ring diameter, the rafter length, and how it fits atop the wall lath, or extends past the wall line, the wall height, and lastly the actual exact diameter of the yurt. Details about how a real

dome

fits atop the ring, this I know nothing about, but it probably is a factor as well. Only those that make yurts and covers know about these details, but they are essential to a quality fit.

Whatever you do, do 'NOT' get a treated canvas cover for your wet Maine climate. Spend the money and get a high quality cover. Good luck.

I agree. Though I like the look of the canvas, if it were me, I would go with vinyl all day long. Of course, if I had a traditional yurt, it might be different. I can't see vinyl on a Groovy Yurt lol. Those yurts are cool and require canvas IMO but they are a different kind of beast than the engineered yurts people buy and leave up year round in the snow belts (and don't live in full-time).
