Lattice wood? help please
I'd like to build a permanent yurt from scratch and i'm scratching my head over the dimensions of the lattice sticks. are all yurts standard in the size (not length) of the lattice sticks? i'm planning on making a 16' diameter yurt as well as a larger maybe 24' yurt but i don't want to use more material than necessary... i'm thinking either ripping the sticks from a 2x12 to 1x2 or just buying 1x2 which ever is cheaper. so one of my questions is that is 1x2(inches) are good size? to me it looks like that might actually be bigger than what is usually used in the lattice and i might be able to get more out of my material if i go 2x1/2 maybe. especially if i get the strongest wood i can in the lumber yard.
also my goal is to haul the material ready for assembly in a sedan with the seats down and maybe sticking out the trunk a bit for the 16'er. so maybe if the angles of the lattice is more acute the a right angle i can use shorter sticks...
i'll be doing a lot more research before i get started on this but i thought this would be a good place to start for guidance. i also plan on contacting some companies that build yurts in my county for keeping everything up to code. but the more resources i use the better.
