After being on the waiting list for a couple years, I finally received my
Starlink dish! For those of you who do not know what Starlink is, it is an internet service provided by SpaceX (Elon Musk). They have been steadily launching hundreds of low earth orbit satellites and currently have about 1,500 of these in orbit. They are not in geosynchronous orbit like the old satellite internet services (like Hughes), rather they are constantly moving. The Starlink dish works with these as they fly by, switching to the next one seamlessly.
I hooked it up and it orientated itself and had internet running in less than 2 minutes. It is simply plug and play, You can see the speed tests I am getting right now.
I mounted it right by my entrance so I can easily take it with me when I leave. It is really nice to have this connection. Now I can spend way more time here.
I really think this is a huge game changer for living off grid or in otherwise remote places. For many people, living without internet is just not an option as a lot of them work online like myself. This opens up basically the entire globe to us now.
So far, it is using between 30-40 watts of power. It does have a
element but I have disabled it via the app. I don't have a reading yet on how much power it uses when it is one.
