Default Starlink At The Yurt!

After being on the waiting list for a couple years, I finally received my Starlink dish! For those of you who do not know what Starlink is, it is an internet service provided by SpaceX (Elon Musk). They have been steadily launching hundreds of low earth orbit satellites and currently have about 1,500 of these in orbit. They are not in geosynchronous orbit like the old satellite internet services (like Hughes), rather they are constantly moving. The Starlink dish works with these as they fly by, switching to the next one seamlessly.

I hooked it up and it orientated itself and had internet running in less than 2 minutes. It is simply plug and play, You can see the speed tests I am getting right now.

I mounted it right by my entrance so I can easily take it with me when I leave. It is really nice to have this connection. Now I can spend way more time here.

I really think this is a huge game changer for living off grid or in otherwise remote places. For many people, living without internet is just not an option as a lot of them work online like myself. This opens up basically the entire globe to us now.

So far, it is using between 30-40 watts of power. It does have a

heating

element but I have disabled it via the app. I don't have a reading yet on how much power it uses when it is one.

Is this the premium Starlink or regular Starlink option? Thanks!

May I ask about the monthly costs?

I see on the website for Austria an service fee of € 99.-/month (which is approx. 109 USD).

That is the monthly cost, and it is now $599 for the equipment.

I have had mine for about a month or so now and I’m very pleased too. Way better than using a Verizon Jet pack.

We’re still on the wait list. Will you re-connect the heat element in the winter?

I've been on the waiting list since the beginning but we're in Mongolia so it could be a while. They mentioned 2022 and now talking about 2023. It would solve a lot of issues for us. We're internet hogs and live full time in the mountains. We're on the fringe of 4g and I have a 4g booster which makes it tolerable for us but no chance of having a YouTube channel - my dream - due to the low upload speeds. Also it costs us a lot because we pay for data and we use a lot, yet at rubbish speeds.

I can't wait for our system. It would change our lives quite a lot.

Did you order it for your Mongolian address, or are you a customer from UK for them?
