Thanks Bob - yes, I wasn't really worried about the cracks, but there are some pretty significant divots/shredded spots in the wood, milling imperfections. If they were deeper than 1/8-1/4 inch, it was hard to get them smoothed as much as I'd like. I didn't get any good pix of those.

I can get green 2x8 utility t&g for about the same price as #2 kd 2x6. The select kd 2x6 t&g is double the price. What do you think would be the best option under floating flooring?

I'd absolutely go with the KD due to the span. If green utility 2x8 is really wet when installed it can easily shrink to where the tongue isn't properly engaged in the groove. Considering the centers that would make for a floor tumblers would love. I'd spend the money. Good luck.

If you plan to install a floating floor system onto the platform you might be better off using 1-1/8" t&g plywood. This should be less expensive than the 2x6 t&g.

When planning for a floating floor system we recommend also fastening a raised ring along the outer circumference of the platform (usually 1x6 laid flat) for the yurt itself to anchor onto. The floating floor can then be installed within the ring and it's expansion gap covered with molding. Email us if you would like some information on preparing the

yurt platform

for a floating floor system.
