Default ductless heat pumps

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here. Just got yurt up, and figuring out stuff like heating/cooling and lighting. I'll ask my lighting question in a separate thread to keep subjects clear.

Okay, so after weeks and weeks of research, I'm thinking of putting in a ductless heat pump for

heating

and cooling (I'm in the Pacific Northwest, so it's cold in the winter and then we get about 6 weeks of actual hot in the summer).

What BTU (or tonnage) would you recommend for a 24 foot yurt? It's a

Pacific Yurts

yurt with the extra

insulation

liner, but still doesn't feel like a very insulated critter to me so I'm thinking that the normal square footage recommendations will not suffice.

I'd love to hear from others who have ductless heat pumps. Do you like them? The cost of these units is super daunting so hearing that others love them, or being steered away before I commit, would be appreciated.

Not exactly on target, but here is another idea for your construction, if you aren't already past the platform point.

This guy lives and writes from North Georgia on a variety of topics from hogs to yurts, and more... Usually a fun read.

Good luck, what ever you end up doing,

As a rule of thumb, I always recommend going at least double the square foot recommendation of a heater.

I recently communicated with Pete @

Pacific Yurts

. He suggested something that puts out 35k BTU to 55k BTU for our 24 footer here in Elkton, Or. We have insulated the floor with R-13 boxed in. Insulating outside the floor frame with rigid foam, have the Pacific Yurts

insulation

package. We also have a solar arc which I guess is problematical. We are putting in 5 thermo pane windows.
They don't give away 35k to 55k BTU heat pumps for one thing and I am concerned it will run constantly.
This is our second yurt. The other is a 20 footer used as a family room, guest room etc. It's heated with a wood stove which my wife hates. Therein lies the problem. Vented propane

heating

stove/ductless heat pump?

Who has the answer?
