Default Crook County Oregon??

Hello,

New to the forum and my wife and I have been researching Yurts. Anyone have any experience building a Yurt in Crook County Oregon? going through the permit process? We are going to make the yurt our permanent home at some point. Most likely gonna go with a hard side yurt such as one from

Smiling Woods Yurts

.. any info is helpful. Thanks..

Thanks Marshall,

Hoping to get help with navigating what seems to be a permitting process that is stacked against a diy'er who wants to build a home that doesn't involve going into debt. Sorry, slight rant.

Usually the only real impediment you run into involve

insulation

regulations. Check those out first to see what the requirements are for your area.

Has anyone here gone through the permitting process for a Yurt as a full-time residence in Crook County Oregon? This area has some affordable acreage so I am sure there are people living year round in Yurts, but I am wondering if any of them went the legal route. My understanding from talking to locals around Prineville is that there are a lot of illegal buildings and the county really can't handle all the work. I've heard "you can do whatever you want out there" as a common saying in this are.

Well, since my 1st post we ended up remodeling the 1 bedroom manufactured home that was on our property when we bought it. Although we do entertain the idea of replacing it with a yurt at some point. Our place is in an area with a HOA but it is mainly for collecting a road maintenance fee. From what I've seen,it seems like the further you are from Prineville the less "need" for permits there are. That being said I think it is complaint driven enforcement. So If you're on good terms with your neighbors, go for it.
