This lashed yurt lattice idea prompted me to investigate the idea furthur. While I found no lashed lattice, I DID find another yurt build site that offers very detailed build procedure for yurts similar to mine and others. There are at least three approaches to building the yurt ring in the article.

If interested google 'yurt/ger construction 101' and follow the link. It is a good read especially for the beginner to gain some real insight into an actual yurt build. Plus the author gives some historical commentary on trad yurts as well.

All the videos i have seen the lathes were tied with horse hair cordage. As far as lashing your lattice together won't it go slack when you close it? Good luck nothing beats a trial but failure. How else can we learn.

I have made a similar yurt! using bamboo for the khana.. it did involve tying hell of a lot of knots, and drilling a lot of holes...but can certainly be done with one person over a couple of days!! Honestly, if i were to do it again, i'd use flat lathe as it can be done about 10 times as fast...

Hi all,
I will build yurts made out of bamboo as well and hope to post soon some scale prototype projects.

The yurts will be for typhoon homeless families in Philippines.
Since Bamboo is abundant there and round buildings sustain heavy winds, can be built fairly quickly, the concept sounds good.

Bamboo if cut in correct season, matured and cut at correct age, dried to less then 10% humidity can be a strong lasting solution on a very sustainable material.

Bamboo if engineered, glued together as Ibeams, and slats glued together has excellent properties...

More soon.
