Yurt in the Snow

I had a good time snowshoeing up to my yurt last weekend. When I got close, I have to admit I was a little nervous. There was about 17" of snow on everything from two snow storms. The first one was a wet snow that was followed quickly by a cold snap. Here is what the trees looked like on the drive up there:

Notice how the only tracks on the road were snowmobile tracks lol. I was the only vehicle to have driven up there in a few hours.

The dirt road into my camp was just filled with bowed branches and fallen trees:

The first structure I saw was the outhouse which had me a little nervous lol:

The yurt roof had the same amount of snow on it:

After I ran the wood stove for an hour or so, it started to come off:

Eventually it all slid off. The yurt didn't even budge when it would slide off. I feel it could have handled 5 times that amount of snow without any issues. Overall I was very impressed by how it held up to the snow.

It was VERY warm in the yurt with the wood stove running. After I finished all my outdoor projects, I sat around doing indoor projects in shorts and a t-shirt. That night it got down to 11 degrees and I slept with the covers off the bed.

I can't wait to go back! The snowshoeing was very fun. I dragged a small plastic sled with supplies behind me (beer is a supply right?). It was just nice to get away from it all in a place where it was very unlikely for someone to just stop in and say hi. :)

Beautiful! We are glad to hear that the yurt is providing you with a comfortable place to get away from it all.

Snowshoed up there today. All is well. The stove pipe came off the stove, but I think it was just because it has been below zero up there that the metal shrunk a little. I guess I should attach that will something. Well, next time I am up there I will do what I can. :)
