Yurt Automation

A friend sent me this: twobraids: Hacking a Pellet Stove to Work with Nest

I thought it was interesting, as I've also done a little #YurtAutomation as well. I've setup a RaspberryPI with a temp sensor to monitor the temperature of the yurt. I can get this information on my smartphone, so even when I am away I will know if the pipes could freeze.

Anyone else coming up with creative solutions like this?

I can't make the assumption that for 7 months out of the year, I will be in the yurt every day. Cabin fever gets the best of anyone! Especially after 3 months of lows ranging from -35 to 0.

I've been looking at setting up some basic automation for remote-control and monitoring. I want temperature sensors, remote control thermostats, and some video if possible.

I did a chunk of reading a while back, and settled on probably using this:
Perceptive Automation

I can then attach Insteon components:
ISY99-KIT2 - Insteon ISY99 Dual Band Starter Kit - Aartech Canada
2441ZTH - INSTEON Wireless Thermostat and Temperature / Humidity Sensor - Aartech Canada

And it looks like I can integrate this video system to the indigo control:
Bensoftware ? SecuritySpy ? Features

And I want weather data:
WeatherSnoop 3 WEATHERSNOOP-EMAIL Weather Station Software for the Mac (Email Registration)
Connect | WeatherSnoop | Tee-Boy

Has anyone gone down a similar road?
