Wood siding and metal roof

My husband and I thought we may side our yurt with cedar or pine and cover it with a metal roof potentially. Then it would match our house that it is attached to.
Has anyone done this? Would it comprise waterproofing? What type of material to use?

I have a permanent yurt that we are restoring. The siding on it is a more standard wood siding. The cedar sounds really nice. A little too expensive for my budget. Same with the metal roof. Because my yurt has 12 sides the prices were all out of my budget. We ended up repairing the roof with asphalt shingles. We saved a ton of money and are very happy with the results, except for the dead skin on my knees!
