Tinted or clear dome?

What are your thoughts on a tinted dome for Northern Idaho? We are not sure?

Would like to see the stars through it at night, however do not want to bake in the summer. We will have a dome that can open.

Thank you.

I have a clear dome (very Northern NY) and I wish I had used a tinted dome. It would have kept the heat down IMO.

If your yurt site receives direct sunlight for any substantial amount of time then a tinted dome is highly recommended. It cuts down on the UV gain immensely, keeping the internal temperature of the yurt more comfortable. Even though they look very dark from outside, you can see clearly through one from inside. Stars, northern lights, clouds, etc are all clearly visible through a tinted dome.

Agree wholeheartedly with our friends from Shelter Designs. In our experience, unless your yurt is shaded naturally, a tinted dome is a good investment. You'll still have the views, but with less UV gain.

We have found that the screen insert in the compression ring is generally a good idea in most climates. Even customers who say their area is not very buggy are amazed at the amount of insects that will accumulate on the screen with the dome open. Keep in mind that it is an option that can be ordered later and installed at any point if you don't want to get it right away.
