The Surely Sink

Steve from over at Surely Yurts was going camping with his new wife, near where my yurt is located. We got together and he built me a new utility/kitchen like sink for my yurt camp. I don't have any real plumbing up there, but I wanted a sink for doing dishes instead of washing them out of an old water bath pot I have. A friend of mine was actually throwing out a small kitchen sink which I reclaimed and then Steve whipped up a custom counter top for me.

It has worked out perfect. I drain the water into a bucket and then reuse that water to put out the campfire. If you have ever camped in the Adirondacks, you know why we always have a campfire going up here in the summer.

Anyway, here it is!









Oh and by the way, I added the little shelf on the bottom later. I wanted to reclaim that space.

Metal sinks are WAY nicer than the typical plastic basin used when camping. Five gallon bucket excepted because those are free and very useful for alot of things besides washing up.

Nope, solid as a rock. They are screwed to the studs in the wall and on the floor.

Wow, that's really nice and sort of what I want to do but with plumbing the sink and having hot water on demand.

The gas range is only about 23"wide and the frig is about 32" wide. But my plan in to find someone on "Etsy" to build the whole structure, then I will have the plumber put the sink, faucet and hot water on demand in. I guess mine will be more of a contained entire unit, sort of all closed in. My vision is of course to be off grid some day but baby steps. I will use mostly propane, will have a wood stove for heat. Does anyone out there have any knowledge about using a Hot Water On Demand system? I've been told I only need one unit for both the inside kitchen sink )no walls, no bathroom in Yurt) and the outdoor shower on the deck.

Don't know if that's true. I will also have to hire a carpenter to put the platform together, put posts in cement (yurt will be approx. 6 ft off the ground) and build the small decking. The Potty House will be a small shed ON the deck about 10 to 20 feet from the Yurt, if I have the money for that much deck. Using a composting toilet and a claw foot tub inside the yurt, someday.

Does anyone out there know of an honest, hard working, decent carpenter that can do this? In the Central Arkansas area? Need someone NOW or as soon as they can start.
Anyway, nice job on your good looking, simple kitchen...I love it!! [emoji3] oh, and I was going to put a lot of open shelving on either side of the kitchen unit. There will be a 54" wide, 24" tall window above the sink and the open shelving (just plywood) over the window, should have about 2 feet left over for that, the walls are 7' tall. Any suggestions or thoughts? Never done ANYTHING like this and unfortunately have to hire all the work out. I'm almost 60 and although very handy and artistic, I don't have ANY equipment to do this sort of work.
