The Bath Yurt

As you know, we built a new yurt up at my yurt camp to house the shower and bath tub. I decided a long time ago, to go with Surely Yurts for a small 10 footer custom made by Steve Reed. He and Ray (pictured below) constructed it by hand. We started building on August 22nd and here was the location:

With a little help from Cooper the dog, we got started on the platform. I say "we", when I actually mean Ray and Steve. I didn't really help all that much in the building other than carry a few things and making sure we had enough supplies and hops to get the job done:

At this point, I started building beer brats because we all know you can't build a yurt without them. :)

The platform work went pretty quick actually. They leveled everything off of a big slab of granite in the center. Unfortunately for us, it was right near a yellowjackets nest, but we didn't bother them and they didn't bother us, at least for a while:

On day two, after a well needed breakfast and gallons of water, we got started on actually putting up the yurt.

Here is what we had at the end:

Followed by chicken grilled on the campfire. :)

Wow, we had a great time at the camp over the weekend! Love what you've done with that bath tub and the rainwater catch.

Thanks for everything Jeff. See you soon.

-Cheers

Jafo,

- really like the roof/ crown! I have been looking for ways to put the stove in the center/ piped through the crown, without loosing light intake from above. I think you solved my problem. Any thoughts on the structural change compared to normal straight raters. Ie.- How would this translate to a 20 or 30 foot yurt?

- what's the subfloor? Kind of looks like Advantek but looking at it on my phone isnt the best.

I can't speak to the design as I didn't build it. There wasn't anything special on the subfloor, just some strand and then a layer of insulation (see video) and then larch flooring on top.
