Replacing a drip edge

Hi all --

We have a 24 foot from Pacific Yurts. I think the contractor that built the platform for me did not use exterior plywood for the drip edge. It's starting to rot after 4 years. I'd like to replace all of it. It's in sections, so I could replace a section at a time, but I'm concerned that if I take even one section down the lattice wall might slip over the platform edge. Has anyone had replace a drip edge, and what issues did you encounter? Many thanks, Mark
 
Tagging Pacific Yurts on this as they may have an answer. This is a good question, one I have not considered before. I would love to hear a good answer because I think your concerns are valid. My instincts say, one small piece at a time, maybe 4' sections?
 
You can replace the drip edge on your platform without the yurt slipping off the edge as long as you do it when it is not windy. Simply remove the screws along the bottom of the side cover, remove the anchor screws for the lattice wall in the area you are working, and then you can remove each eight foot section of drip edge and replace it.

It is a good idea to paint your drip edge material prior to installation. Also, keep in mind that the top 1" of the drip edge will be visible on the interior of the yurt, so be sure to paint it as well.
 
What is a drip edge made of? Is that a part one orders from their yurt company or something one gets locally and cuts to fit. Thanks! -- Cindy
 
The drip edge is part of the site-built platform, not part of the yurt. It is typically made from strips of exterior plywood that are bent around the circumference of the platform, but could be made from other materials such as cement backer board. The drip edge provides a surface (below the interior floor level) for the bottom of the side cover to anchor onto and also extends above the interior floor level by an inch to prevent the lattice wall from slipping off the edge of the platform during the installation.
