Propane and Woodstone inside Yurt

Yes, you will like that. I believe most of them use anti-freeze in the lines, so you should be good there.

Sounds like maybe an upcoming yurt build? Something we can document maybe?

Jafo,

I took a cue from your previous blog/article and visited Surely Yurts workshop. It was a great experience and it allowed me to see the Yurts in the "flesh" so to speak. In addition, Steve came up to my site in the ADK's and got an idea on what I am trying to do. It was certainly helpful.

Steve and I are still in the design stages, but if something happens its probably in the early Summer 2016. Stay tuned.

Great! Let me know how it turns out! :) Steve is a great guy.

Good Morning Jafo, just to let you know we will be building a Yurt with Steve from Surely Yurts. Wont be till later next year, but finalizing the details over the next few weeks. Will be putting in a working bathroom, and electric. More details to follow but thats the latest...

Excellent. Would it be possible for me and my son to come up and photograph/document the build?

sure no problem, first step will be to put a septic in.....Steve wont be putting the Yurt in till May... Here is the potential location.. I plan to pull electric, propane and water from the cabin in the background..

Hi Jafo,

Steve and I finalized the Yurt build today. Additionally we met with the Septic Contractor as well. Build will start in early May. I will pm you at the beginning of May so you can come up at the start of the build. From what Steve tells me we are right up the road from you..

ADKbham....

Brantingham is not far from me at all if that is where you are. Let me know when you guys get ready! :)

I was drawn to yurts through their success in Mongolias winters. I still am. Other then small bottles of propane I am leary of any propane in any tent. At the same time over a lifetime of wood stove experience I am comfortable with wood stoves, all of which makes me comfortable with Groovy Yurts. Mostly because of the origins on their products. That said, I would want the max amount of insulation of any companys yurts, and add to it. I am still hoping to visit Mongolia, hoping for this years Naadam Festival. I haven't put up a yurt yet, no permanent site, I keep looking at a nomadic life style, I'm an Irish Traveler origins. The O'Levis.

So, a lot of T's to dot and I's to cross.

This site is a great resource, a LOT of excellent food for thought here.

Do your homework folks, Yafo and Bob got their acts together, if they advise against something pay it heed !

Thanks I plan to lean heavily on the Forum's experience, and particularly Jafo's. I also have been working with Steve from Surely Yurts - who will be building the Yurt. While our experience is just getting started, I am very pleased with the advise and suggestions I am getting from Steve. My wife and I are both excited about this project and hope to have Jafo document some of the project build for the Forum as it gets started in the Spring. We just happen to be in his backyard so to speak.

You have been the source of a lot of excellent advice Bob, you guys are the first ones anybody should look to for advice.

When I find the right site your ideas for sure will be incorporated . It'll either be northern MI, or western NY, leaning heavily to here just because of a new grand daughter here. We could have a LOT of fun in the woods here.

My keep me out of bars past time is making bows, primitive American and Mongol composite bows. So I see a ~24' for me and my critters and ~ a 15' adjoining for a shop.

Another plus for here is an excellent VA clinic.

Its hard to take more then one day at a time. Hard enough to do a good job with the one at hand.

I have a bottle of Jamesons in the cupboard that waits for a shot of it for the next president.
