Pricing Concentric Yurts

My husband and I are preparing to build a yurt in rural Texas. We've just about decided on a Frame Yurt (probably from Smiling Yurts) but I cannot get the beautiful concentric yurt designed by Bill Coperthwaite out of my mind. Since we've decided to build a wood one, part of me thinks that I should just build it myself. I only have two things stopping me: my dad is in his 60s and doesn't want to cut all the wood himself, and two, even though I have SCOURED the Internet, I can't find any information on how much the 1000 sq foot concentric yurt might cost to build. Do any of you know?

Thanks for the help. I've read the yurt info site, and Bill's book as well. All I can find on the web is the statement that it cost 1-3k to build one in the late 80s. I've no idea how much it might cost now and was really hoping to have even a rough number in mind before I made my final decision on which avenue of wooden yurt to pursue.

If no-one can answer my questions I'll just write off for the plans; I don't really mind making a donation to the yurt foundation even if we don't end up building the concentric yurt.

Using this as a rough estimate:

CPI Inflation Calculator

What cost $3000 in 1989 would cost $5554.69 in 2012.

I think that might be a good idea on the high end, but I am not a carpenter either.

The CPI data is relied on as a major indicator of inflation for many countries. Nothing is perfect, but it helps when trying to ballpark currency value. It is one of the most watched data in economic statistics.

I ended up ordering the plans for the concentric yurt. Based on the materials list, it looks like it'll take about $22,000 to build. I wanted anyone else trying to price a concentric yurt to be able to find a rough estimate!

Hi Kira,
I am also just infatuated with the idea of this yurt! From the videos I've seen of it, it is just incredibly cozy and beautiful on the inside. Just to clarify, is your estimate based on the largest Family Yurt plan?
Have you decided if you will build based on the plans?
Thank you!
