Platform settling

Hi All. I have a 30 foot Pacific yurt that went up in September of last year (2015). It has been essentially empty since then as we are still setting up utilities, etc. I noticed the past few months that the platform is becoming uneven in certain areas and figured it was just settling. This weekend I realized that the entire perimeter of the platform is down about 2 inches from the center. Is this normal? I'm assuming that it is because the weight of the yurt is only on the edges? Has this happened to anyone else. Thanks.

Two inches sounds a bit much. If you're platform was well built you'd probably get a little settling, but I would hope for more like 1/4 to 1/2". How'd you measure the drop?

What kind of platform do you have? Can you post some pictures? How is it attached to the ground?

I can post some photos the next time I'm up there.

The platform has sonotubes 3-4 feet in the ground. I believe it was built using the Pacific Yurts platform plans.

I know it is around 2 inches (maybe a little less) because we were building a loft this weekend and in order to keep the floor of the loft level, the vertical wall beams measured about 1/4" in difference every 16", so the end result was that vertical beam in the center was about 2 inches shorter than the last vertical beam near the wall. Then I took a level to the rest of the floor and realized that the entire perimeter of the yurt was lower then the center.

Hope that makes sense ;)

Hard to figure this one out online. I suggest you give the outfit that built the platform a call and ask them? I agree with hierony two inches is a fair amount of settling. There's a logical explanation, but without being there and looking at the build it is a head scratcher. Good luck.

wonder how deep the Sono tubes are? But going forward you an probably jack up the yurt to level, and put spacers and brackets .
Do you live in a cold climate in the mountains? Frost and thaw conditions..

Good luck Ivan
