Greetings!

I am glad to have found this forum and to be a part of it.

Has anyone used RV sissor jacks instead of posts for a yurt's decking? We operate 3 yurts on USFS land: one 24' needs to be taken down to the ground yearly and two are 16' currently supported by aspen rounds (permit stipulates no permanent install). The two 16' yurts are also 1.5 miles from the nearest road, so avoiding concrete piers or other heavy options is understandable.:eek:

Other (lightweight and efficient) options would also be appreciated!
 
We use concrete piers for the 24', but then must level the beams every year, consuming a couple 4x4s in the process. Cinder blocks may work at the two 16', but we get 300-400" of snow at those and need to relevel periodically.
 
Check out Freedom Yurt Cabins, they have a pretty awesome system for their floor system. Modular, easy to dismantle and reassemble.
 
I'll throw in my .02. I wouldn't use a scissors jack. They are expensive, and designed to lift with the base sitting on a solid pad, preferably concrete or asphalt. Lifting with any concrete block or stone pad from Depot or Lowes under the jack is pretty rustic. Since they are designed to sit on a pad, just go ahead and block the beams with 4x4 or whatever. jmo ymmv
