Looking for someone that has experience in financing a yurt as a permenant residence.

Tell me more about your financing requirements. Do you own the land? How is your credit? How much do you need?

Ron

Hi; my husband/partner and I are interested in the "round house" experience. But we're thinking of two (one for each) on one piece of property.

What sort of land is best to look for? I'm interested in Prescott, AZ. Does you contact the city government first, or go to a realtor and they can direct me best?

Thanks.

Barb B.

I would contact a realtor for land, government for permitting. Permitting varies from town to town, county to county.

Jafco -- thanks very much for the information. I was thinking along the same lines.
It would be great if it was one-stop shopping, but it's more than that.
All my best...bb

Barb,

The timing is pretty interesting on your post. Prescott is my hometown and I'll be there for the entire month of September. I've been designing, building, drafting, permitting, and implementing yurt homes for a decade now with my business, Yurts of Hawaii. If you'd like to meet up or have a phone discussion, let me know. Aloha!

Melissa

Aloha, Melissa! I don't know if I can make it in Sept; I'm already pretty booked up with clients of my own; AND I'm going a sales meeting next week. But I'd love to talk with you. We can wait until you are in closer proximity. I have a friend in HI and it's always difficult. Should we exchange phone numbers?

Hello Everyone, I am a sort of newbie looking for information on the wooden yurts. Stumbled upon this site while searching google. I will be soon in Oregon and not sure what i will be doing housing wise. The Smiling Yurts have always interested me. I am wondering if anyone has actually invested in the wooden yurts and if so, did the financial numbers come in close to what you expected. Any ifo. on the subject would be appreciated. p.s. I am a dreamer.....

Hello barb,
My husband and I are looking into putting a yurt in chino valley. Right outside of prescott and I was hoping you may have gone through some of the issues and I could pick your brain....

Hi, I noticed this original thread was written 4 years ago, in 2013. Since then, has anyone had any luck/new leads with financing? Located in Maine and hoping to go with a USDA loan on everything (land + yurt). Just looking for a bit of a leg up. Thanks!

Also wondering if anything has progressed since the start of this thread.
Does anyone know anything about the situation in the UK, too? My sister is thinking about it too...

I know that this is an older thread, but would like to know how your project has progressed. I’ve recently purchased land, and have my yurt on it’s way. I found that by doing a concrete foundation with a wooden platform for the yurt that it was easier to get financing and permitting for my yurt.

It’s definitely going to depend on your local government, either city or county. I’m in the county and I also think that helped a lot with getting the approval. Cities tend to be a little more strict on the building codes. I doubt that it’s impossible to get, just may take some creativity to persuade them.

I do know that if you need financing that the site that I bought mine through, simpleterra.com/yurt-kits/, has their own in house financing. I just took a look at it and they require 60-65% down and they will finance the rest.

Seeing that this thread was started in 2013, you’d think that a lot of progress would have been made in the last six years for alternate living homes, but a lot of areas just haven’t dealt with people looking for permitting for them. I think I’m probably the first one in my area to put one up as a permanent home.

Reassuring the bank about things like you have an actual door and windows that locks helps too. A lot of people hear the word yurt and they assume it’s just a fancy tent. It definitely takes a lot on the customers part to be creative with how to go about it.

Hi
I live in London and thinking to create my own yurt-house here in uk.

Do you have any suggestion in how to purchase land? I would be happy to hear your story!

Thanks
Maria
