Large Door.

Hi Yurters.

Anyone have any thoughts about one building a very large door frame as part of a yurt? I am building a 20' yurt and want the door area to be about 7' wide and 5' high. When finished the idea is to have a 'normal' door with a double door option or a space to have a standard window or coat rack where the double door could be.
Is there any problem with such a wide door area? Im wondering if such a large non-curved area in a mostly curved structure would cause a weakness or other issues.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

Hmm any reason you cannot make the header curved?

Oh, and welcome to the site! :)

Nice simple idea. Thanks Jafo.
Based on your suggestion, I imply that you don't see a structural reason not to do it.

And thanks for the welcome, cool looking site! Being the admin, can you tell me if one can change names on the forum?

As long as it is sound, I myself do not. I have to warn you though, I am not a yurt builder. However, many of the commercial yurts come with a French door option, so it isn't unheard of.

I can change it for you. What would you like?
