Hi All,

well we bit the bullet & ordered a 24' Pacific Yurt. I just stumbled on a craigslist listing for a Jotul Black Bear wood stove. it seems to be in good shape, only used for a year, they claim. Does anyone have a sense of what a good price for this would be? they are asking 1K. I know I could find other stoves for less, but I thought the Jotul ones were known for being super efficient. Does anyone have any experience with using this specific stove to heat their yurts?

any advice would be appreciated.

I have heard of them, but nothing specific. If it were me, I would first check out this forum:

I have used that site for years when it comes to questions about wood/pellet/gas stoves.

Also, just do some quick googling for the model in question. You should start to see prices for it on old ebay and craigslist ads which will give you a ballpark figure.

I've used a Jotul Black Bear for five years and I have no complaints, other than I have to put wood into it to get it to heat up! :) The Black Bear takes long wood and cigar burns the logs so they burn from front to back. With some practice, you can load up the firebox and by adjusting the air you can get four or five hours of burn, but on cold nights you've got to refill about every three and a half hours. As to the price, $1000.oo is reasonable for a one year old stove. Offer them $800.00 and see what happens. I'm sitting next to my Black Bear as I type, and it offers a good warm fire. Good luck!
