Drywall in yurt

Hi! I asked this question a few years ago...I am reposting hoping maybe between now and then there are new members that have more information about how to do this!

My yurt is in my backyard in Portland Oregon. I would love some soundproofing and have seen a number of yurts online that install 'real walls' using 1/4 drywall and insulation. My concern is mold behind the insulation.

Has anyone here done this? Any tips and tricks for preventing condensation from forming between the canvas and the insulation?

If your yurt had an exterior wall that was made of 2x lumber panels that drywall finish would work a whole lot easier. You could add regular fiberglass insulation not to mention standard windows that open to let the moisture out. Just a thought. Good luck.

That is the idea. To install the snow and wind kit and real windows, add insulation and 1/4 inch drywall over that. Still feel concerned about moldy lattice and canvas behind the insulation.

If you plan to install drywall onto the interior walls you should make sure that your side cover material does not contain cotton and that the bottom of your side cover is sealed well to the platform around the perimeter to avoid moist air from infiltrating. If your yurt has rafter supports (vertical studs) along the interior of the lattice wall you can cut and install rigid foam between them pretty easily. (Rigid foam will be less likely to have rodents nest in it than fiberglass batting.) The drywall can then be installed onto the inner surface of the rafter supports and finished.

We installed 3/8" drywall and denim insulation. We do get a bit of condensation in very cold weather but are careful to use the dome vent, and have a bathroom exhaust fan. We have not had any mold problems but you are in a wetter climate than us. I believe the sidewall allows so much air flow through the walls that the moisture does not build up.
