Building a 14' yurt from scratch

Hi everyone! I'm glad to have found this forum. I'm currently building my first yurt. I hope to have the deck done by this weekend, and then get going on the yurt itself. The goal is to have it done by the end of the month. (probably not going to happen! lol)

I haven't decided yet -- should I make the lattice 1/4" thick or 1/2"? Any opinions?

I'm using used billboard tarps for the outside coverings, with used concrete blankets for insulation. I still need to come up with something inexpensive for the inner layer -- any ideas?

Thanks,
Sonia

A layer of fabric, or something inexpensive, to hide the insulation. It's just for looks because the concrete blankets are ugly. :)

Ahh ok. Have you considered maybe foam board insulation? You can cut it to fit in between the rafters and you don't end up hiding them. :)

As for the lattice, I think either would work with a 14' yurt, but others correct me if I am wrong.

Sonia:

My 4.5 meter ger is about 14 feet in diameter. The wall slats are 5/16" X 1 1/16" vertical grain White Oak. The inner layer is made from white sheets sourced from a hotel supply, which I believe was in Reno. Purchased by the box. This was less expensive than buying the cotton by the bolt. The insulation is felted disaster blankets, again by the box. My ger is pretty much traditional Mongolian. There are pictures in the album, start to finish.
