Adding a Kitchen to Yurt

I bought a house that included a 30 foot yurt, no bathroom or kitchen. I am going to buy a compost potty. Unsure what to do about a kitchen. I think a microwave, small frig, and hotplat to start. I'm thinking I will rent it.
It has propane heat and a small wall mounted air/heater.

I think the person who owned the house used propane inside the yurt. I see the pipes for it. I do not want to do that.

Anyone out there have experience with these issues?

I have a kitchen at my yurt. Simple propane tankless water heater. I use propane for the range and the fridge. My yurt is completely off-grid with no other option but to be so. Propane is a lifesaver.

If you want to offer a more "professional look", you can use a portable suitcase kitchen.

Some ideas are here:

Or a more stable version:

Your yurt looks just like mine.
So you use propane inside the yurt? There is a pipe coming inside your yurt carrying propane to your frig and stove?

I am in USA. Where can I find something like that?

Look how simple the design is made. That is no problem for a carpenter to copy it.
Some stuff you can use for:

Or you can google "mobile kitchen in box" (or similar, with "kitcase" e.g. ....).

Some other possibilities I found with this search:

Or search on Amazon:

I won't comment on how to set up a kitchen in a rental yurt.

If you rent that yurt you better make sure your gas appliances meet safety code. Same for bathroom, electric, plumbing, compost toilet etc.

If you have a renter in your 'rental yurt', and there's a fail that can be tracked back to lack of permitting and/or code violation, it will be a life changing event, and not a good one. Renting is a VERY BIG deal nowadays. Think about that.

That said good luck

Yes, I have it piped in via copper. Definitely do your due diligence if you are going to be renting out your yurt. You will want all the safety bells and whistles.

For myself, I have shutoffs for each appliance, a main shutoff and of course a shutoff at the tank. You can't have too many IMO..

Good morning,
Thank-you for this information. The yurt was on the property when I bought the house. It has electricity. It is hooked up to the main house electrical panal. He also had gas piped in, but when I had someone look at the propane stove in the yurt, he said it was illegal to pipe in gas. For heating it is okay but not for a stove. I do not plan to install a stove that requires gas. I will have a hotplate, microwave, and a mini fridge. No inside bathroom or shower. I'm hoping I can get a compost toilet and shower outside the yurt.

Good morning,

When I had someone inspect the propane stove used for heat, I was told it was okay. But when he saw the pipes inside that were used for an inside camping stove, he said that was illegal. I live in CA.
I will likely have to install a compost toilet and a shower outside the yurt.

Yes, an inside camping stove is against code in any structure just about anywhere. My stove is a typical gas range with a pilot light. It looks similar to this.

OK here's a short story about 'fails'. Back in 1974 when I was 20 and attending CU in Boulder CO I rented a cheap appt in the basement of a very old home. That house was divided into 7 (!!) appts, all of them occupied by dumbazz college students just like me..

To use the defective old school range pilot light oven I'd have to occasionally light the pilot with a piece of flaming paper. BOOOOM!!! The oven door blew open and flames shot out.

I didn't tell the property manager or anyone else. Schmitt like that happened back in the day without result. But nowadays you can get sued.

My gas on the oven won't turn on until the second pilot heats up the valve, then it opens up the next valve. Most of these Amish friendly pilot-only stoves have a lot of safety features built-in. Unfortunately, it makes them very expensive.

Our slide in range/oven is natural gas. If the cooktop burners don't get ignited the gas will run anyway. Scent is added to the gas to alert a problem.

We had a typical natural gas forced air furnace/air conditioner combo in our condo. The unit had a replaceable primary filter which I regularly changed.

What it also had that I did not know about was a secondary air filter hidden inside that couldn't be reached without disassembling some of the plenum. It became COMPLETELY plugged up over three decades to where the furnace didn't ignite properly from lack of combustion air supply. I ignored that. "It's just getting old." BOOOM!! lol

After a brief examination the tech said, "I recommend you replace this old unit with a new high efficiency furnace, Bob" lol
