Good ideas Wintergreen! I agree on the skirting below the decking, seems like more of a mice den than a heat retention benefit. I have thought of using radiant heat in the floor would be the best for way to heat a Yurt, essentially tubing stapled below the floor in a serpentine layout and of course super insulated . I have thought of

heating

a non-toxoc fluid with the wood stove, but I am not sure you can get a wood stove to burn with any efficiency with water jackets , end up making a lot of creosote, and of course we do do have electricity for a circulation pump.. But if one were on the grid, with a propane tankless unit this might work well..
I agree with encasing water or waste piping with

insulation

, but should have heat tape..

Update #2: As you can see in the first photo, I got the waterlines boxed up. The 1" waterline to the yurt was already enclosed in 4" PVC (green pipes; there's an extra one with nothing in it currently but it's there to supply a future building). That's mineral wool

lining the box. On really cold nights I plan to run a 60w bulb inside the box.

Winter weather continued early this week, culminating in snow on Tuesday as you can see in the second photo. I feel like we're pretty protected from plumbing freeze-up at least for the next month until I finish my dissertation revisions and can get going on skirting.
