Default Would like to connect to other yurt builders.

Hoping to connect to other like minded people willing to share experience and skills. Maybe you would like to be a yurt builder? Lets start up a conversation.

I'll be watching the conversation that develops here, Tree Bones. Our SMY experience has me feeling like I am building my own yurt with a bunch of pieces that don't match. I'm thinking it would have been easier, in a way, to start from scratch and build my own, but I don't often go out on a limb like that. It took an uninvited nudge from the universe to get me out of my comfort zone on this one.
I was going to note it on another of your posts, but I'll stick it here instead - I appreciate your effort to source materials in a wholesome way. It's going to take that kind of mindset to even minimally lessen our negative impact on this world both environmentally and socially.
On that note, I guess I did my part by rehabilitating a crappy yurt rather than sending it to a landfill

A yurt saved is a yurt earned.

Default The 'Why" of building Yurts.

A Handmade Life by William Coperthwaite, Peter Forbes, John Saltmarsh - Chelsea Green

This is a must read for anyone building yurts for a living!

An encouraging book for anyone who has or wants to have an active hand in shaping our own world and the community around us.

Laurel Nest Yurts

in NC helps people build their own yurt. They are willing to share information and have put together a yurt building guide.
Might be worth checking out

I have hosted a Yurt Building Workshop this spring and provide hands on yurt building skills and instruction to anyone who is interested and willing to learn. The design is my own and is easily adapted to customize individual needs. At this time I don't have a schedule for another work shop but will accommodate anyone willing to participate. Post here or send a private message.

Hal and Asia or Laurel Nest have put together a D.I.Y. book, yes, and they are also working toward getting their plans engineered. That doesn't mean that it would be engineered if there are ANY deviations from their plans, but it's a start of a new direction in the industry.

I have talked with Ellisport Engineering (yurt specialist) a few times over the years and they have suggested it will run me a couple to several thousand dollars for a set of engineered plans. This is in my goal, as always it is another investment on my list. I am hoping this Spring, I am working on securing a project to finance this. One more stepping stone along the long and winding yurt journey.

if you want to live a healty housing, live in a ger.
leave your house, or turn it in to a workspace.
get rid of stuf that don't fit in your ger.
if you have an expansion, build an other besids.
pose it on the earth,
build it your own,
make it simple and usefull,
use it, dont try to keep it neat.
take care of it,
make friends by building toghether,
dont hide, fight!
make a living around it,
grow your food.
dismantle an possible dislocate your yurt/ger every 6 months.
dont install a habitation fixed on the earth, move. if you fix you kill.
this is a hudge paradox. that means you move and you leave your garden and all facilities you have created. but you or someone els may return and profit. but time and nature cleans!!!
salut, dag, bye, RAY
