Default Anybody ever heard of / used this company...

Yurt Mongolia has traditional Mongolian yurts for a fraction of the price of many others. (They are based in Mongolia as opposed to other companies that import and sell stateside.) I'm trying to figure out what the price difference comes down to... Massive markup or legitimately superior quality. Thanks to anyone who can add to this topic.

Shipping, import management & fees, distribution,

insulation

, and some particular specs/features plus quality vetting would be my guess.

A normal 5-wall costs just under 700 USD in the market in Ulaanbaatar. That is with inner liner, one layer of cheap felts, canvas and outer cover. Its not really waterproof or moisture-resistant, but perfect for the Mongolian user and climate.
Transport by container to somewhere else adds cost, financing it, import-levies and VAT in country of sale, local storage after arrival, delivery to customer, after-sales, it all adds.

THAT is great info! Thank you. When I was over there I never priced yurts because I had no plans to live in one at the tme. Its good to get an idea of what kind of mark-up there is.

Mark ups easily double, and even triple! the consumer cost. Then offer "Huge Sales Event!"' lol My uncle Leonard rip- sold Fords. I went to buy y first new truck in 1982. "Bob it's a huge game. We always make money. How much depends on who walks in the door." heh heh Ain't that the truth.

Stuff imported from Asia into USA or EU normally doubles or triples in price. Its a reality, and there is not much you can do about it, unless you want to go charity.

Unfortunately my land arrangement fell thru, no yurt for me in the near future it looks like
For that kind of mark-up I could fly to Mongolia, take a month long vacation, buy one at market and ship it to my self for less money than several companies charge!
Thanks for the input.

yes. But you'd be amazed how much money would disappear between buying here at the market and setting up wherever you are.
And you'd still have a cheap, totally non-waterproof ger.
