Re: Newbie yurt building help.

New size is SMALL! WAAAAY small, but will be good for two with a stove in the middle. Less weight, less parts, less cordage, faster setup, smaller 'footprint'. Easier to heat when it is really cold....

Re: Newbie yurt building help.

BTW the 12' American yurt in the wilderness outfitters video, is essentially the same as the two I have built, and the yurt plan I have mentioned here many times over the years, .:

Clan Yama...

Re: Newbie yurt building help.

Gonna build a 10x12 greenhouse on the yurt platform. The 16' yurt was just too big to heat without insulation, and too much for camping. It's a whole lot easier to find a flat spot for 12' vs 16'...

Re: Newbie yurt building help.

OK, I just typed in '50' yurt' in google images. That's the first time I've done that. In fact there ARE 50' diameter yurts with wood lattice and cloth cover. Amazing. bold__one good luck with your...

Re: Newbie yurt building help.

BTW a 50' yurt is 1,963 sq. ft., and a 40' is 1,256'. A 30' yurt is 706'.

The 30'er is typically the biggest standard size yurt, based on the manufacturers sites I have browsed, and the biggest...

Re: Newbie yurt building help.

Contact them. To be clear about this site, we talk conventional wood lath and fabric yurts to about 30', and the wood platforms they sit upon. I don't know, maybe one of the yurt manufacturers here...

Re: Newbie yurt building help.

I highly recommend you read through the Kaminari plan. The 12' 14' and 16' Kaminari type camping yurts have a roof pitch from about 22 degrees to 27 degrees, and I'll guess that is fairly typical of...

Re: Newbie yurt building help.

It's a huge yurt. The potential amount of weight above your head is substantial. I'd stick with a small yurt for the first build. Learn from that experience. I built the 16'er and the 14'er. Both are...

Re: Newbie yurt building help.

Google:

Clan Yama Kaminari-make it

Scroll down to yurt build and read through the plan. You really should consider building a 16' yurt first, to get your feet wet, before going for a massive...
