Re: Insulation

When you comes to insulation you just have to make sure you are venting moisture. Sure, you can lock the heat in, but if you are also locking in the moisture, be prepared for mold.

Re: Insulation

I have an old smaller woodstove in my 30 foot Pacific Yurt and it keeps the place pretty warm. I have been here to -20 and was walking around inside with a tshirt and shorts on. I agree with Bob...

Re: Insulation

IMO wood is the best option because it is a dry heat. The insulation/moisture topic is a hot one within the yurt community. My opinion on this is basically this:

Have you ever been in an attic...

You need more than a space, it needs to vent outside somehow.

Re: Insulation

One thing you might try doing is every once in a while, firing up that wood stove as high as you safely can. Heat the room right up, and then crack the dome enough where it can stay comfortable, but...

Re: Insulation

Can you tell us how you plan on using your yurt? Will this be a full time home? How many people will be living in it if so?

Re: Insulation

The thing is, I don't think the dome would be the least resistance because the warm air is naturally going up, and warm air seeks cold air. With the dome open, the hot air rises out, pulling the...

Re: Insulation

I don't think it is likely a wood stove would draw from the dome. The yurts I have been in are far from airtight. There are plenty of places to pull air in.

The moisture is an issue because...

Re: Insulation

I think so many people forget about the floor when it comes to insulation because we just naturally think of heat rising. You're so right. Insulation the floor in ANY home will bring an...

Ahh ok, well I cannot speak to it yet, this is my first year and I haven't even put in the wood stove yet. I am curious, do you have your yurt divided into multiple rooms?
