Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

UPDATE

Last month, I noticed a drip inside our yurt during a medium rain. Then I noticed another, and another, and so forth. I looked behind the insulation and saw countless pin holes in the...

Re: Extra wall protection from bears

I don't doubt this bear or bears are comfortable with humans. I had a big city kid excitingly tell me how he was feeding one fried chicken. I wanted to scream! But, that said... a good friend of...

Re: Extra wall protection from bears

After I posted, I researched solar powered electric fencing. I dismissed it prior due to my experiences with them on the family ranch years ago. Weeds touching them created sparks which I envisioned...

I found this thread while looking for advice on keeping bears away from yurts. Since putting mine up in 2014, we have had multiple visits from black bear... and a lot of damage ranging from minor to...

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Hi - Not sure who your response was to but my vinyl cover was welded together with heat. I actually replaced several sections with new vinyl by welding with a special heat gun and roller. It's a...

Looking for a used yurt in need of TLC and/or repair. Condition can be "poor".

I'm looking for a used yurt to buy that needs some repair and/or TLC.

I'm not afraid of one that's in pretty poor shape either. Two yrs ago, I salvaged one headed to the landfill.

I'm only...

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Hi Meg,

It's good to hear that others have used Gaco with success too. Was the fabric they applied the Gaco on the same as yours?

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Oh, and the only tip I have for painting is to make sure your cover is as clean as you can get it....and dry. With canvas, you might just scrub it with hot soapy water....or take it to a car wash....

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Hi Meg,

I'm not sure how much help I can offer given that my only experience is with Gaco on vinyl which is what my yurt cover is made from. If you could describe the "Test kit" and how it didn't...

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Hi,

I was just there 10 days ago and thus far, it looks to have wintered well. A small amount of the silicone was rubbed off where ropes and bungees holding down a window flap have rubbed against...

Re: Anyone use EPS rigid foam insulation in their floor, between the joists?

That's good to hear. Thanks! Got it done this weekend. 1" EPS cut from the factory to fit between the joists. They only charged me $60...and I have some left over. I used some old 1x2's I had laying...

Re: Anyone use EPS rigid foam insulation in their floor, between the joists?

Great idea. And I love cats. However, between the coyotes, bears, cougars, and wolves, I think they would be short lived. Maybe I need more rattlesnakes. Nah, there are more of those than I'd...

Anyone use EPS rigid foam insulation in their floor, between the joists?

Was planning to lay down some salvaged carpet and call it good. However, I'm quite fond of how my 2x6 decking looks, so, would rather keep it exposed and insulate from underneath. My first thought is...

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Well, after much Internet research, many phone calls, testing, and stress, I finally did it.

Several issues. One: There are dozens of different elastomeric paints on the market. Two: Most stuff...

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Hello,

I wasn't able to get my yurt up last yr due to time constraints. I'm going for it now though!:)

I have patched all the larger holes in this cover by welding vinyl patches on. All the pin...

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Excellent. Thanks! Is this something that is commonly done...or at least something that has been tried and tested? If so, very roughly, how much additional life could one expect....a year, maybe two?

Marshall, how long ago did you do this and how long has your canvas been out in the elements since?

Re: Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

Thanks, Jafo. There are simply too many holes to patch. It would be far easier to just replace this cover than try to patch. As mentioned though, I am on a budget...so if possible, I would love to be...

Roll on or paint on roof sealant for many small holes?

I washed my roof cover the other day and strung a line to hang dry it. While walking under this now tent-like structure, I looked up and was shocked at all the sunlight coming through the holes....

Re: Location for backcountry yurt. Seeking input on placement.

Thanks. Here's another potential spot a stones throw from option #1. Better views in my opinion than #1, some shade to the west to protect the yurt from the sun and wind, and firewood at arms length....

Thanks for the input, you two. Keep'em coming!

I do have some pics but it appears that I can not attach them here directly from my computer. Is this correct?
