Re: 6m Yurt semi-open plan

That is a very interesting design that looks like it uses the space well. There is only one wall with the kitchen and bathroom on each side, so it serves as a common wet wall. Easy to run...

Re: Any New Hampshire yurters here?

Hi Ivan,

Many thanks for the thoughtful reply and the offer! I would love to come visit your yurt. I'll be back in NH around July, and I'll send you a PM!

Cheers,

Any New Hampshire yurters here?

I am almost done with my overseas tour and am headed back stateside for at least two years… possibly permanently if I decide to retire early (which is looking more and more attractive as each day...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Wow, that sounds awesome. Are you going fully off the grid by choice or necessity... or a combination of both? I’d love to see pics of your yurt and systems if you have some. I believe there’s a...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Your yurt design sounds similar to Bob’s from juicymaters. He also advocates putting utilities under the yurt in a crawl space. What are you using to heat the crawl space, and what are you using to...

Open air yurt

Has anyone ever assembled a modern yurt package without the side walls? I am thinking of keeping the top cover and dome – and having doors attached to the lattice walls – but leaving off the side...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Hi Bob. That is mostly true, but let us not forget that “needs must as the devil drives,” as the old folks say. Mongolians don’t prefer to heat their homes with the dung of their livestock, per se;...

Re: New member's yurt plan

I was hoping it was going to be as soon as 2020 for me, but a few things changed at work for me, so it's looking like 2023 now. Only three years longer and gives me more time to plan/daydream/save.

Re: New member's yurt plan

Hi Bob. I appreciate your perspective, as always. I will not be paying anything off, as I will not have loans of any sort; I am budgeting for the total cost of land, improvements, and structures.

Re: New member's yurt plan

Hi Bob. I would be relying on professional builders, so labor cost would factor in for me. I have completed some rough estimates of what it would cost me to build the 30’ yurt as configured in my...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Hi Bob. There is a good possibility that I will go with a cabin. It seems to me that there are two appeals of a yurt to many people: 1) the unique and interesting design, and 2) the price. The...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Thanks, Bob. I've definitely got my eye on mold-control. I hope that with the bathroom fan and range hood (both exhausted to the outside), the A/C unit/dehumidifier, the ceiling fan/dome opener,...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Hi Drunken hobbit. It is an online program: floorplanner.com. It's free to use (you get one design for free when you register on the site, but you can add multiple floors to your original design)....

Re: New member's yurt plan

I was going to reply that a window wouldn't fit, but upon closer inspection, it appears that I had mis-sized the windows in my original design. I didn't know the actual dimensions of the Custom...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Hi Jafo, I cannot edit my original response to this, but I had another thought: I believe the mini-split unit I am looking at has a dehumidifier function, in addition to air conditioning, and I...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Here is my concept of the loft area. At the moment, I am not confident that there is enough space for the furniture as configured. It seems I need to go with a full bed (vs. queen) -- either just...

Re: New member's yurt plan

That tracks with everything I've been reading. I'm trying to incorporate other peoples' experiences into my build. Moisture seems to be a major concern, which -- if left unchecked in a yurt -- can...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Many thanks for the kind words, absolutely feel free to use the design. Yes, I am having difficulty envisioning how the space on top of the loft will be used, but it looks like there is sufficient...

Re: New member's yurt plan

Thanks, Jafo. The other room is a utility room which would hold the water heater (possibly a Toyo on-demand oil water heater), chest freezer, washer/dryer, fuse box, etc. Floorplanner lets you...

New member's yurt plan

Hi all,

Longtime lurker, new member. I thought I’d tell my plan to those who share an interest in yurt living. For my yurt, I’m thinking of a 30’ modern yurt with the following specifications:
