Well... the deck definitely helps the snow bank up. In the kind of cold we have here and with the wind and persistent heat loss... the banked up snow to the roof is a welcomed change after a cold...

Yay you survived the wind!!! We live in a very windy part of the country with lots and lots of high wind storms... our average wind is high wind haha. We don't ever have problems with the flapping...

I'm Canadian!!! I am from BC, but we live henceforth in PEI where we own two yurts that are both insured and mortgaged!

You need a great insurance broker who wants to do work for you...

Hey djspn,

I didn't choose to build the loft with it attached to the rafters, but under the circumstances it seems to be okay. Where it is attached to rafters it is not load bearing by any means...

Hey bss that totally does make sense and you are right...

I forgot to mention that the windows are built up high so they tuck under the top cover overhang so that effectively deflects the water...

I think from traditional building standards its difficult to imagine that less is more and the key to Yurts is to recognize that part of what makes yurts strong... is their ability to be light, bend...
