Re: Strawbale Foundation

Yep. I can't remember how deep we originally dug it-- a foot down maybe?-- but the ditch went all the way around the yurt and had a drain (and by that I mean another ditch running downhill :) ) off...

Strawbale Foundation

Wanted to share for general interest. We raised our Two Girls Farm yurt in the spring of 2015 on a strawbale foundation which was inspired by (and got input from) Groovy Yurts. The foundation felt...

What's your favorite non-electric lighting?

I won't have solar hooked up right away and I'll need to be picking up some lighting soon. I've got a 20' and young kids who can play board games forever, even after my eyes in dim lighting are...

I'm not sure if this fits your needs, but I got Berkey filters through Amazon and fit them to work with 2, 5-gallon pails (free food-grade ones from the local supermarket bakery) and once it's...

Re: Jotul choices

Thank you so much hierony-- these are great links. I decided to go with the jotul #6 and just see how it works. It was super affordable off Craigslist and is pretty adorable. Best way to figure...

Re: Jotul choices

Maybe what I'm really asking is, how important is the seal on a stove for yurts? If these puppies are leaky will I be pulling in tons of cold air like in a stick built house? Does the radiant factor...

Re: Yurt Living in Massachusetts?

Not sure if NH is close enough :) but we just got our yurt from Two Girls Farm out of Alstead and love it. Awesome people with lots of love going into their structures. Very affordable too.

Jotul choices

We raised our 20ft yurt this spring and will be heating part-time this winter (in NH.) I've found two old Jotuls - a #6 and 118. Would either of these be better/a horrible choice for starting out?...
