Re: Our Savannah Yurts

Jake,

Thanks for the kind words. I just sold the smaller one to a young couple starting a farm in the area. Had to spend the day yesterday raising the yurt and fixing a main post that had sunk 5"....

Re: Our Savannah Yurts

Been darn near a year since I posted here. Have had renters in the Yurts Since October and minus the hot summers without a shad cloth have been doing well.

I'm just waiting on some finished...

Re: Cooling BTU's

I will have to check it out. I think the fridge in most of your campers runs the same way. Uses the propane heat in the same cycle. Trust me there is plenty of it. We just generally undersized in the...

Re: Our Savannah Yurts

Jafo I should put an ad up but I don't really have a pure sale as the only way to get rid of it. We wil see. I would love to take it back to Oregon with me but I guess if the wife won't live in it...

Re: Our Savannah Yurts

Well we moved in and lived there about a week. Wife absolutely hated it so now I'm back in suburbia hell.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a set of yurts and or land in the Savannah GA area...

Re: Best Yurts for Insulation

A cross post from my build thread and I will get more scientific data in the future. The closed foam polyethylene insulation does make a big difference, at least in keeping heat out. Here are some...

Re: Our Savannah Yurts

Well I am taking some more leave but we are FAR from done. Dad flew into town to help finish up last minute things and while I still have holes in the walls, no running water and the bathroom that...

LED lighting

Besides the outhouse is anyone else running LED lighting? Thinking about running the circumference of the top ring and bottom outline with 12v strips. Most likely off of converters until I get the...

Re: Our Savannah Yurts

Well I gave our 30 day notice last week and time is slipping away from me fast. Electrical is 95% done and plumbing is ongoing. Still have more work than I know what to do with but here is to hoping....

Re: Our Savannah Yurts

I planned on leaving the Voltage at 12V. Mainly because most of the LED lighting systems are 12V. Then I would run a small inverter in case the power ever went out. That would keep our fridge and our...

Re: Insulation

I need to stop by the local HF and pick up a cheap infrared sensor but I will let you know how my testing goes. It was 97 and 90% humidity here the other day. Probably well over 110 in the yurt and...

Re: Our Savannah Yurts

Just a few more. We decided to go with composting toilets so I don't have to worry about septic. Found a couple on ebay for about 1/4 the price of new ones. We will see how plumbing goes but I will...

Re: Our Savannah Yurts

I have been swamped with work, family, and of course building the yurt. Been at it all by myself since it went up so it has been slow going.

That being said the electrician is coming by tomorrow...

Re: How thick of insulation between Lattice

I have decided there will be insulation in my yurt before next summer. It has been in the upper 90's with the heat index of 102. Given the yurt is not completely sealed up, yet it is WELL over 100 in...

Re: Defeating the Deer Fly

They were swarming inside our yurt(still not sealed during construction). I've never experienced them before and the owner of the property said he has never seen it this bad down here in Savannah. My...

Re: Cooling BTU's

I found a container full of surplus woodland camouflage the other day. Cut the lock and it was probably sitting in that container since our first deployment in 2004. It is going to the dumpster or to...

Re: Cooling BTU's

Well if I stay on track we will be moving in around 1 August. I just ordered a 24K inverter unit for the 30' Yurt a 12K for the 24' yurt and a 14K portable unit that will be in the bathroom on the...

I wish the edit button lasted longer for my posts. I go back and find all of the errors later.

That said glad to know I'm not the only one looking for these answers. Tennessee gets plenty hot in...

Re: Cooling BTU's

Bob,

I like the idea of a huge tarp over the yurts during the day. I should go to the excess equipment yard and pick up some of our camoflauge netting and rig a way that I can unroll/roll it up...

Cooling BTU's

I know most people that build yurts live in climates that require heating. I on the other hand need cooling.

I will be placing a couple ductless mini-split units and I do have the insulation kit...
