Re: Yurt Dome Insulation Install and Condensation

That indeed must be frustrating for you. How much frost are we talkin about? Right now it's -16C and it's 4pm.......the dome has more than half cleared off of frost. By sunset it'll be mostly clear...

Re: Yurt Dome Insulation Install and Condensation

Wise words Jafo. That's why my walls & deck of loft don't meet the yurt itself anywhere. It's a separate free standing piece in my yurt. I'm thinking that is letting the reflectix do it's job....

Re: Yurt Dome Insulation Install and Condensation

Free firewood is a good thing! It doesn't bother me 10-12 cords of wood, it's carbon neutral. The propane bill is pretty small, heat exchanger steals heat from 60gal hot water tank. It's...

Re: Yurt Dome Insulation Install and Condensation

Well my 28' sits on an insulated cement slab with radiant in floor heating that will keep yurt at 50F with no wood stove going. The wood stove goes 24/7 to keep it toasty warm here. And yes I'll...

Re: Yurt Dome Insulation Install and Condensation

Well it's warmed up to -21C & frost has cleared off the dome & most of the snow has gone off the dome as well. Our French doors that were frosted right over are pretty much cleared up as well as the...

Re: Yurt Dome Insulation Install and Condensation

Last night down to -41. Yurt still warm but things have frosted up a bit. Not surprising! I'm not bothered, windows will clear up in a few days & indoor relative humidity is only 45%. I'm not gonna...

Re: Yurt Dome Insulation Install and Condensation

I should mention as well that I do very little stove top boiling. A boiling/simmering pot can easily be set in the oven to cook. Ovens on a wood cookstove are vented to the chimney so there goes the...

Re: Yurt Dome Insulation Install and Condensation

I'm very impressed with the lack of condensation in our yurt. Yes, we get some......2 adults showering, cooking, laundry drying, tracked in snow melting, etc but not bad at all.....the dome is open...

Re: Putting in a Gas Range/Oven

I'll be thrifty on my propane stove for morning coffee & summer cooking but I'm splurging big time on my wood stove for the yurt. It'll be primary heat source for enduring harsh Alberta winters,...

Re: Putting in a Gas Range/Oven

Yikes! There's a much cheaper line from this company Ranges, Ovens and Stoves from Peerless Premier Ranges (http://www.premierrange.com/)

I think they have units suitable for off grid. I wasn't...

Re: Putting in a Gas Range/Oven

There are also propane stoves made by Unique (I think) that have battery (9volt) ignition systems or the option of electronic ignitions that have a sparker & not a glow bar. Their power consumption...

Re: Yurt owner wannabe

Thanks for askin. I'll be on a farm just south of pigeon lake. I found a 5 yr old yurt from the same company you're buying from. I'm putting in a wood stove cooker as well but have concerns about...

Re: Yurt owner wannabe

Thanks for the reply! My site is on a farm where I will be exchanging labour for land rent and we are skirting county rules on permanent structure, hence not pouring a cement pad. If the whole setup...

Re: Yurt owner wannabe

I'm excited to share this news. I'm buying a used 28' Yurtco (now Yurtzbydesign) and will be relocating it as soon as the snow goes enough to get truck & trailer into the site where it is. I've...

Re: Cement pad

Thanks for responding. :). The plan is radiant infloor heat using glycol warmed by heat exchanger tied to propane hot water tank. Low-tech, little power consumed to circulate. The goal is a warmish...
