Re: Moisture in the Yurt from Condensation

I've got layers of insulation throughout my yurt. The outer layer is a 10 mil plastic sheeting. What I've noticed is that condensation collects on that outer layer.

This year, my solution was to...

Re: Moisture in the Yurt from Condensation

Burning wood really helps with the moisture. I didn't have an issue with moisture and -30 degrees were the norm for us last year too.

Re: Insulation--alternate forms

"Reflectix" type insulation has proved to be very helpful for me. I think if you have enough material up there, you should be fine. The only concern is that it doesn't compact under a heavy load,...

Lightening concerns?

Has anyone had any concerns with lightening striking their yurt?

In my case the yurt is the tallest structure around. I had a friend who offered me a lightening rod setup, but I didn't think it...

Re: attaching fabric to roof ring

I don't know if I'd recommend it to everyone, but I stapled it in six places, directly to the roof ring.

I had my reservations about doing that, but it's just a security blanket. The ring is...

Re: Ceiling fans for climate control?

Jafo-- I'm currently using foam board insulation, however I haven't hung it between the rafters. Instead, I created a drop ceiling using wire and placed the 3 inch think foam board above that. It...

Ceiling fans for climate control?

Hi,
I've been living in my yurt in the Adirondacks for 9 months now. We experience pretty extreme temperature swings here. On a hot day the yurt interior can sometimes reach temperatures greater...

Re: Heating while no one is home?

It depends on how well-insulated you are. I heat with wood and leave for work 8-10 hours each day. If I shut the stove down before I leave for work the yurt is fairly reasonable when I get home (45...

Re: Any successful New York State Code Divisions Approvals

Most towns that I'm familiar with in Vermont do have zoning in rural areas. Some have no zoning code though.

Re: Stick-built yurts/round houses in Vermont?

We're in Central VT too and considering this type of frame (stick-built). Ideally we'd be building a 24' yurt. Have you gained any insight into how such a structure would hold up here?

Question Saplings for Khana

Hi all, I'm new here but I've been floating and reading for some time now.

My partner and I are considering putting up a yurt here in Vermont. Last summer we visited a local manufacturer (Two...
