Blue Ridge Yurts

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and have been dreaming about a life 'in the round' for a few years. I've been exploring options for buying a yurt kit that will allow a 30' footprint, but also will give enough head room for a sizable loft. Blue Ridge Yurts has a 30' diameter with 10' walls, and has several options for insulation and such. I'm in Mid TN, so the winters aren't exactly harsh. Does anyone have thoughts on a 'tall walled' yurt, or maybe some info or experience with Blue Ridge Yurts? Thanks for the help!

Hey there, just called and talked with Kathy there at Blue Ridge. Thinking of doing a 30ft with 10ft walls, myself. Did you end up going with this? What was your experience like?

I never did, actually. Still living the stick built life! In researching more, I believe that you'd have plenty of stability in the walls, even with the extra height. Good luck!

The yurts we build with 10' walls at Blue Ridge Yurts are awesome for people who are interested in having a loft inside their yurts. You can easily heat your yurt with either a wood stove, an outdoor wood furnace, or radiant heating if you place your yurt on a concrete slab. We have a lot of yurts here in Floyd County Virginia where we are based, and most of the people who own a yurt live in them year round. If they're able to live in comfort with the types of winters we have here in the mountains, you'll find that you won't have any issues staying comfortable in a less harsh environment.

I've just completed a 30' yurt with 10' walls that I'll be erecting soon, and plans are to heat it with an outdoor wood furnace.

I vouch for Blue Ridge Yurts. They are good people and they make good yurts! Love their 10' wall concept.

Aloha,
