Thanks amberoons,
If you have the time when you are there again, I reckon many would appreciate some close up pics of those great DIY opening windows.

yeah id like to get some too... i did promise i would... and then wouldn't you know everything that could possibly come up and keep me from getting out there since has gotten in my way... same goes for this weekend... but i will have to be up there soon as we are moving out of province on the 22nd and the place is nowhere near ready to sell or rent! Eep! Soon tho... I promise. I got pictures of the snow up there a couple of week ago after only one week of snow and it was up to the top cover edge... couldn't figure out how to post them.

Thanks for the responses. The black locust poles for the platform should be delivered today!

Hey Mac,
I had considered moving to DR after a visit last fall (2012) and was thinking about a yurt. But I wasn't sure how we (family of 4) would live there until I got the platform constructed/sourced (since DR requires wood to be locally harvested/reclaimed/sourced). Also, I wasn't sure if a yurt would be allowed since it would be non-local wood. At that time I didn't realize that I would be able to construct a lot of it myself and just buy the non-lumber portions like you did.

I saw your pics on the classifieds link to your flickr album. Nice job! Where did you use the black locust poles? Just for the platform? I was thinking you used them for rafters, but it didn't look like it in the pics.

I'm now trying to find some rural property not far from where I work (near KC, MO) and am still planning on a yurt at this point (and still considering life at DR at some point in the future, LOL).

I hope you manage to sell your yurt to someone at DR. That would of course solve a lot of problems (dismantling, transporting, etc.), keep the lumber local to DR and also provide another DR member with easy housing. :) Best of luck!
