Ring failed. Image of construction. What's your opinion?

Wasn't sure what category to post under.
This winter, I was notified that my yurt collapsed. The perimeter cable is still intact. The ring failed, probably from uneven snow load. I don't yet want to reveal the manufacturer, but I'm somewhat upset about this quality. Is this acceptable for a 30' model sold with extra "snow load" features? In my view, the glue alone makes this inexcusable. Other rings that I see online have more than two layers, good glue coverage, fully sanded and sealed. The construction here is two rings of 12 2x6 segments reduced to a curve. |

Terrible picture and I cross my fingers for the quick restoration.... Quote:
Did you buy your yurt directly from the manufacturer? |

They offered vertical 2x4s and brackets to attach to the perimeter ends of the rafters. Also an extra charge for some special brackets on the ring assembly. In hindsight, I cant imagine trusting anything to be mounted to this ring. |

How much snow would you estimate was on the roof?
If I recall correctly, most manufacturers use 3 layers of wood there or a metal ring. You would want at least 3 layers for a yurt that big so you at least have one layer of overlap?! |

Definitely looks very sparse on the glue. Screws alone aren't strong enough to hold a soft wood ring together under major weight. I want to see 2 nuts/bolts on each straight wood length on a ring, minimal.
2 layers of 2x at the ring should suffice if built well. Uneven snow loads are the killer of yurts no made to withstand them. Are you able to salvage most of the rest? |

Did your "Snow-Kit" include center-poles? |

2 layer rings is common, this ring simply wasn't made correctly by anyone standards. There is clearly not enough glue. the surface as a whole should be covered with glue not just a line of it. |
Re: Ring failed. Image of construction. What's your opinion?
Both surfaces should have glue completely covering the joint, and glue oozing out when clamped/screwed together. That is without doubt 'the' worst build I have ever seen. Plus the wood used is absolute crap. Pathetic F- build.

Soft crap redwood from Depot or Lowes. Absolute junk for a yurt ring.
