    Our Savannah Yurts

Well I am taking some more leave but we are FAR from done. Dad flew into town to help finish up last minute things and while I still have holes in the walls, no running water and the bathroom that isn't even finished we are moving in tomorrow. Supposed to be 100F Thursday and Friday and I will...

    LED lighting

Besides the outhouse is anyone else running LED lighting? Thinking about running the circumference of the top ring and bottom outline with 12v strips. Most likely off of converters until I get the 12v and solar system set up. Think they would provide enough light for the entire yurt?

Just a few more. We decided to go with composting toilets so I don't have to worry about septic. Found a couple on ebay for about 1/4 the price of new ones. We will see how plumbing goes but I will be using PEX for almost everything. Also thinking about using LED lighting exclusively and running...

    Our Savannah Yurts

I have been swamped with work, family, and of course building the yurt. Been at it all by myself since it went up so it has been slow going. That being said the electrician is coming by tomorrow and the HVAC technician on Saturday. The following weekend I plan to install the plumbing and then...

    Cooling BTU's

I know most people that build yurts live in climates that require heating. I on the other hand need cooling. I will be placing a couple ductless mini-split units and I do have the insulation kit on my Colorado yurts. I will be running a heat pump water heater in the pantry of the 30' yurt...

I had to reboot my computer to load photos. So here they are. This part was quick and easy. Got the height of the wall within 1/2" and only took a few minutes. Just held the ring up while three friends inserted the first rafters. Cooled down quick with shade. All Done.

Laying the joists for the subflooring Actually had to rotate these sub flooring boards. Learned it is a nominal width so it wasn't lining up on 16" on center. Had to remove 4 boards then start over. The insulation was rained on in one spot when the wind blew up my tarp but I let it dry for a...

    Our Savannah Yurts

Well it has been about a month. Been swamped with work and has been pretty much a one man show at the yurt site since. I've had a little help here and there though so that helped. Also just had our second child this week so that makes things a tad bit more difficult. At that tricky stage where...

    Our Savannah Yurts

So today was BEAUTIFUL!! Sadly we were not all that productive. I guess I could say it just took more time than I thought. By the time we unloaded the truck, put everything away, cleaned it, fueled it, and turned it in more than half of our day was gone. But we managed to get about 1/6th of the...

Staying at my cousins Tiny house in Southern IL. I need to take some more lessons and downsize. Moving the Tiny house here in GA. Had to clear more brush to get my Cruiser in. Flip the trailer hitch upside down to give me a rise instead of drop. It smashed it all the way to the ground but I...

All filled up. Pegosa Springs Colorado San Juan Mountains. I believe we climbed up to somewhere around 12K feet. I never did see a marker. Amazingly beautiful place. I can't wait to go back there and spend some time in my FJ43 Land Cruiser and camp for a week or so in the future. St. Louis...

    Our Savannah Yurts

Then this weekend I worked on Saturday and had a few buddies out to help keep things moving. We really needed about 4-5 people to make it efficient and that is exactly what we had. I drilled a few more lag screws to finish it up while I was waiting (those new little 20V lithium impact drills...

    Our Savannah Yurts

Not sure where I left off but 2 weekends ago I got to actually spend the entire weekend working on the platform. I started off the day by dropping a couple of trees that needed to go and leveled the ground where an old tree had fallen over. I rented a two person auger and we got the 28 6X6 posts...
