A modern yurt will work well in a wet environment as long as you ventilate regularly and have good air circulation. Whenever

moisture

is introduced into the yurt (from cooking, bathing or hanging wet clothing, etc.) be sure to vent it back outside regularly. The other thing that we in wet climates need to do more regularly than those in dry climates is to wash the exterior to remove dirt and debris buildup. Even parked cars that don't get washed will start to grow moss here.

both have pros and cons. Speaking about the outer covers, modern yurts will often have completely waterproofed PVC covers that will have 10 or 15 years warranty, but wont breathe, so other source of ventilation must be used. The polycotton we use in our traditional gers will indeed age quicker. The two years mentioned in a previous post is a very low minimum. We've changed canvases after 8 years and prices are not in the same range than PVC. The main advantage is that it breathes. Combined with the felt

insulation

that can "store"

moisture

for a bit, it makes it easier to deal with humidity and mold.
The key for an authentic yurt (and probably for any yurts) is where the yurt is installed (preferably in a more ventilated area rather than in the mids of a bush) and how it is used. Ventilation (inside and out) will be very important - especially in cold winter climates.
The phenomenon of condensation (vapour hitting the cold surface of the exterior cover) is probably one of the main issue a yurt dweller will have to deal with. There's always a solution, but it is important to be aware of it.
