As a consumer I find this bothersome, too. When I'm shopping around it would be extremely helpful to have folks relating their experiences with, say, their yurt. When I search many of the yurt companies I only find info that the company itself has put online, and no accolades or bitter experiences related on blogs, forums, or whatnot.
Testimonials on officials sites are fine, but independent and personal accounts are primo.
So anything companies can do to encourage their past customers to post stuff would be great for us seekers, and for you folks who have yurts you'd do a big service by talking about them.
I'll start.

Spirit Mountain Yurts

sucks.

We have always requested our customers to share their experiences with the public via blogs, online forums, etc. This forum is relatively new but quickly becoming a very valuable resource for yurt seekers (thanks again Jafo!) and we pass the link out often encouraging our customers to visit and share.

We do have a long list of past customers that we will gladly put interested people in touch with to hear about their experience with us and the yurt firsthand with no filter. We completely agree with Dan R-M that the more info real people can put out there the better. Any company can tell you all they want how wonderful they are, but it is critical to hear real experiences. Until more of our customers decide to chime in here on this forum please get in touch with us and we can provide contact info for customers all over the country.

Thanks!

Here is a quick blurb from a summer camp in N. Idaho who just set up three 20' SD yurts. I asked Steve from Camp Lutherhaven to write directly on the forum here but he was having some trouble somehow with posting so he asked me to do this for him.

"We ordered three 20 foot yurts from

Shelter Designs

to use at our summer camp for camper housing units to replace our aging cabins. These yurts greatly exceeded our expectations for craftsmanship and the ease of assembly. They look great and have been well received by our guests. We comfortably can fit 5 bunk beds in each yurt so we can put a full cabin group of 10 kids in each one. We went with the big 8 foot screen openings and a couple windows that overlook the lake so the views through the walls are spectacular. We had a boy scout take on the assembly of one of the yurts as his Eagle project. With no previous experience other than watching the assembly video, he was able to assemble the entire yurt with 5 other youth in about 6 hours. We couldn't be more pleased with the Shelter Designs yurts."

More food for thought for inquiring yurt enthusiasts.

Many Thanks,

Hays Daniel

Very true, unfortunately. Happy customers tend to be very quiet On the flip side, that also goes for unhappy clients being very vocal, so companies that have major issues also tend to have a lot written for the next person to learn from.

I hope you get to see one soon Melissa! I will let you know when one makes it over to the islands for you to check out. 1256 sq ft of fully engineered (54.6 lbs / sq ft and 80 MPH Exposure C winds) yurt, they are stunning. I hope all is well, congrats on the new addition!
